This isn't the first time that Captain Vikram Batra has been portrayed in a movie. He appeared in 2003 film L.O.C. Kargil as well and was portrayed by Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek Bachchan however was not signed because he was too old to return to the role, considering he was 24 years old during the war. Hence, Sidharth Malhotra was chosen by the Batra family.
Film was earlier titled Yeh Dil Maange More.
In the high and difficult terrains of Kargil, actual Indian Army Soldiers help the crew to shoot the Film.
The film begins in mid 90s in the song Raataan Lambiyan Siddarth Malhotra and Kiara Advani go to watch Dilwale Dhulaniya Le Jaahenge 1995.This scene was shot at Maratha Mandir cinema hall in Mumbai which is running the film since 1995.
During an interview Dimple Cheema described Captain Batra as a person so full of energy that he would refuse to sit idle. In restaurants, he would start tapping the table and when told not to, he would start tapping his feet instead. In the movie, during a scene where Siddharth is served kahwah he could be seen mimicking a similar tapping with his legs.Siddharth did all of the war sequences himself.

There a scene when war was going on in which the Indian Army was running over Pakistan's lag but didn't put there feet on it. That was commendable screenplay showing Indian Army's Ethics. P.S: They also cremated the Pakistani Soldiers with all rituals while their own people refused to take their bodies.

The name Shershaah means "Sher means lion and shaah means king. So it means 'King of Lions' or 'Lion King' and is of Persian / Iranian origin".

Shershah, which is set against the backdrop of Kargil war, clashed with Ajay Devgn starrer Bhuj. Coincidentally, Devgn earlier played Capt. Manoj Pandey in LOC: Kargil, which is based on the same event, where the character of Vikram Batra was played by Abhishek Bachchan.
(2008) J.P.Dutta had planned to make the film "Tiger Hills". He had signed Sunil Shetty, Saif Ali Khan,Akshaye Khanna, Arbaaz Khan. The film was called off due to budget issues. It was finally made as "Shershaah" with Siddharth Malhotra.
